I started working from home a couple months ago, and I knew from the beginning that I’d need to treat it as much like a “normal” work schedule as possible. My routine is exactly the same whether I’m going to the office or staying home (minus the commute, of course).

I don’t always shower in the morning either. These days I seem to be in the mode of going for a run in the late afternoon and showering after that.

I also haven’t found consistency to be a value for me…I get up when I’m done sleeping vs. being at a specific time. Meal times change, work hours change. It seems that the inconsistency of freelancing/contracting sort of demands an inconsistent schedule. Throw in homeschooling and we are completely on our own time here…

I’ve been trying to motivate myself to go to the gym first thing in the morning. But its apropos that I read this blog post after I’ve just sat down to work and I woke up 10 minutes ago.

@wally Many times, I’d wake up, brew some tea, and start working on what I left the night before. Often breaking in the afternoon to shower.

I felt that the afternoon dragged for me much worse than when I prepared as if I were going into the office.

Good post Brandon.

I usually take a shower at night. The downside of that is I tend to get inspiration and then end up coding all night. Though that is only a downside in the morning.
